Adam’s Biography – Early Days
Adam Stansfield was born in Plymouth on the 10th of September 1978. Adam was the third of Roger and Gig’s four children. From a young age it was very apparent that Adam had a real love for Football. He soon got into the family tradition of following Nottingham Forest and was lucky enough to watch them win twice at Wembley in the late 1980’s. Little did Adam or the family know then, that he too would be lucky enough to go on and play twice at Wembley, the home of football. Adam had a very happy childhood; he was a boy who always had a cheeky grin and a caring nature and he developed a great sense of humour at a very young age. Adam had a real talent for doing impressions and making people laugh but from a young age Adam knew he only ever wanted to play football. Adam’s first club outside of school was Evesham Colt’s under 10’s. He was soon picking up plaudits and at various times in his young career he played for the Worcestershire, Leicestershire and Devon County sides.
It was once the family settled in Devon that Adam’s life in and out of football really started to take shape. Adam started his career in Devon at a local youth team; Twyford Spartans. Adam was hugely successful at Twyford scoring 84 goals in 54 matches. Twyford Spartans played a huge part in Adam’s life, not just as a youngster but towards the end of Adam’s life when he managed his son; Jay’s team until he became to unwell to do so. Jay is also doing extremely well at Twyford Spartans and has a very similar record of scoring 79 goals in 57 matches. As a free scoring striker Adam began to attract attention from a number of clubs in the local area. After a spell at Tiverton Town’s youth team playing as a left back Adam began to make a name for him self as a free scoring striker at Cullompton Rangers. After two very successful seasons he moved to Tiverton side Elmore who would ultimately provide the springboard for Adam’s professional football career. It was also around this time that Adam’s life outside of football took a turn for the better as well when he started to date his future wife Marie.
Adam did have some lows in his early career. He had trials at Exeter City, Wolves and Torquay United all of which ended with rejection. Adam never once let this get him down. He continued to play for Elmore and despite the temptations of following his Brother’s and Sister into the RAF he always knew that the “football thing” would come off one day. That day came in October 2001 when playing for Elmore against Yeovil Town Reserves, he impressed the watching Yeovil Town manager Gary Johnson so much that he signed a professional contract with Yeovil Town the following month. He soon made his debut in a 3-0 defeat away to Southport and Adam’s professional football career had finally begun at the age of 23.
